Sleeping in a tipi or in a hut? Contemplating the stars in a hammock or at the top of a tree? Don’t hesitate! As a couple, with friends or with the whole family, have an exciting unusual night!

Huts and Tipis deep inside the woods
Who never dreamed of spending the night at the top of a tree with the sound of the forest to lull you to sleep gently? In the mountain, this dream becomes possible. At Orcières, in the Southern Alps, after having climbed to the top of the tree, the whole family can settle down in hammocks nested amongst the leaves and discover forest life in the company of a guide.

All as attractive, the hut is also part of the game, perched in a pine tree, Remi Cullaz’s one has a cosy double bed and all the comfort necessary for a romantic weekend at Saint Jean d’Aulps, in the domain of Portes du Soleil (Haute Savoie).

If you are looking for something more exotic, go for the Tipis of Val d’Escreins in the middle of the Hautes Alpes. Eric Disdier offers three, situated not far from his refuge of Basse Rua. All are equipped with comfortable mattresses, sheets, duvets and pillows laid on a wooden floor.

If you prefer the Mongolian steppes to the grand western spaces, the yurt will be the right accommodation for you. This circular tent, made of skin or felt, is the traditional habitat of central Asian people. In the heart of the Alpes du Sud, Sauze Super Sauze resort invites you to a star observation session before an unforgettable night in the yurt.

The refuge and the farm
Remember simple pleasures! Numerous mountain farms offer self catered apartments or simple rooms as accommodation. These rural places, far from the urban stress, offer the possibility of discovering the mountain environment at the rhythm of its inhabitants. One can participate in the life on the farm and discover the animals and all the local products with tastes you will never have come across before.

How could one envisage the mountains without the refuges? They are often the starting point for walks and ascents. They allow you to become great pioneers of the summits in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Built in remarkable areas and conceived to have the least possible impact on the environment, an unforgettable night and waking are both guaranteed. Many of the refuges are easy to access. The Refuge de la Fare (Oisans) is one great example. 134 years old, it is most exotic. No telephones here and the water is outside. But it is a most peaceful spot which in itself represents the whole atmosphere of these mountains. A stone nest perched at 2300m. One hours walk is enough to reach it, after a ride on the Alpette’s cablecar…
