On the pistes as well as off, you want to look your best. Today’s skiwear brings together technical performance and aesthetics. Gone are the days of florescent ski suits and other fashion nightmares of the 1990’s…get ready to ski in style.
Trends
Plaids, floral patters, asymmetrical designs and bicoloured stripes are some of the biggest trends for ski jackets this winter. You will see a multitude of colours, cuts and accessories. Here are our top 6 for the 2011-2012 season:
-the « chic parka, » has a feminine cut, long and fitted at the waist, with multiple pockets and lots of details (zippers, buttons, studs) in parka or cargo jacket styles
-geometric patterns, either in discreet, muted colours or brighter shades for those who want to get noticed
-plaids – a favourite for shirts last year, plaid is back on this year’s winter jackets. We prefer them in bright, even flashy colours for a modern twist on this traditional design
-colour block : again, one of last year’s favourite patterns – large blocks of colour – is living a second life, this time on winterwear
-Nordic style : your grandma’s hand-knitted sweaters are getting a run for their money as Norwegian-inspired patterns make their appearance on winter jackets!
-pastels : usually reserved for summer, pastels such as apricot, anise, blush and pale yellow are a top trend this winter, often appearing in complementary combinations for tops and bottoms
The mountain goes urban
One thing is clear, streetwear has a big influence on ski fashions this season. Jackets are increasingly fitted, and are being spotted off the piste en après-skiand even in the city. The fitted, « long slim » jacket is a must this winter, and ski pants are also more fitted. Urban-inspired skiwear has reached new heights, and brands are responding with technically advanced yet stylish designs such as the new denim-print ski « jean » by Bogner, whose insulated lining, polyester stretch fabric, and zip closure over the shin for slipping into ski boots seamlessly unite fashion and functionality on the slopes.
Accessories are In
When is comes to accessories, a wool beanie is a must – extra style points if it’s handmade. For a freestyle look, choose one with a pompom on the top. A fleece lining will keep you extra warm on the slopes. The Peruvian beanie offers a more exotic option.
