In the mountains, each day is a new day. The snow, once associated with forced inactivity for the residents of the mountains, is today synonymous with peace and tranquility. Since the early days of skiing, continuous innovations have made winter in the mountains a one-of-a-kind experience. With a new trend: bringing together pleasure and respect for the environment.

The resorts go green

From wool ski pants to ski jackets…ski fashions are a reflection of the revolution in the world of winter sports. After years of fluorescent jumpsuits, we observe a return to more discreet, muted tones. A trend which can also be noted in the fitting-out of the ski resorts. Gone are the days when one skied nonstop and didn’t ask questions. Today, holidaymakers are more sensitive to the setting : that of a majestic mountain which must be preserved if we want to take advantage of it for the longest time possible. In numerous resorts, new structures blend in with local architecture, and use local materials such as wood from neighbouring forests. Efforts are made to install solar panels in order to reduce energy consumption, as well as systems for the recycling of wastewater, sorting of waste, etc….

Carriage ride

Many family resorts favour new solutions for limiting the use of the car : carpooling, public transportation, or more playful ways to get around : the carriage, or the electric or solar-powered car! Even the snow grooming vehicles use biofuels to keep the slopes beautiful !

Snow for the family

In the end, isn’t a trip to the mountains about getting back to one’s roots? In this spirit, the resorts are attentive to the needs of families, with the creation of numerous play areas which allow children to discover the pleasures of the snow and skiing, as well as the development of non-ski activities such as relaxing in the spa, the discovery of local heritage, or meeting local artisans. They have also developed discovery circuits with themes such as local fauna, careers in the mountains or gastronomy. Certain starred chefs also propose cooking courses!

Higher and higher

When it comes to skiing, the resorts have implemented solutions to improve the comfort of the skiers. The skiable domains are equipped with faster, more comfortable chairlifts, some of which even have heated seats. The internet allows you to avoid waiting at the counter by renewing your pass online from home – time gained during the day to ski. With a click of the mouse, you can also check the snow cover in the resort and on the slopes in real time, thanks to the webcams. So be patient, just a few more days to wait….
